Franken Running for U.S Senate Against Coleman
Last Friday Al Franken was at the DFL office in St. Paul shaking hands and talking with the party staff. It's very likely he told DFL party chair Brian Melendez on Friday that he is running for U.S. Senate against Norm Coleman. Word that Franken is going to run leaked out today when he called some other Democratic leaders to break the news.
Earlier this week, Franken promised his Air America listeners they would hear his decision on running before he leaves the network on February 14th. That fact that he's running won't come as a surprise to anyone since Franken has done everything but say he's going to run. Franken has been toying with the idea of running ever since Coleman won the seat after Senator Paul Wellstone was killed in a plane crash. Franken has spent the last election cycle doing fundraiser after fundraiser for nearly every Democratic candidate in Minnesota. He'll certainly be calling in those chits as he makes his run over the next two years.
