Godfather Of Soul dies at 73

This has nothing to do with politics and is one of the very few off topic posts I have made. James Brown's music has moved me, grooved me and inspired some of the greatest musicians in the world.

Off stage James Brown was far from a saint. His history of drug abuse and lawlessness is well documented. But his life reminds us that innovation doesn't always come from those who stick to the straight and narrow in life. Could the world have done without James Brown the drug user and criminal? Yes. Could I imagine the world without the innovative music James Brown brought us? No. Unfortunately you can't separate the two. People come as a package.

So I guess this is a little political. Don't let the blemishes of some of what a person does eliminate them from bringing you a greater good. It's a lesson we can apply in politics.

More on James Brown here.
